Finally, dear goddesses, there is good news on the hair loss front lines. While I haven’t magically grown gobs more hair, I have a new "do" that makes me look like I have full, bouncy hair again. And it is all due to Luna.
Luna is a magician for hair. Part scientist, part sorceress, and part fairy sprite, she informed me that she could help. "My family has six hairs between them," she jokes. "I know everything there is to know about thin hair." It was hard for me to believe, looking at her gorgeous tresses, but hey I’ve been ready to grasp at straws here.
So Luna practiced her artistry. She layered and highlighted me. Then she reinforced the need for Nioxin shampoo and cream rinse (remember that’s the one that gets rid of the gunk that clogs the hair shaft for so many menopausal women.)
"You know, you have curl that you could maximize if you want," she mused after she towel dried my new cut. I stared at my stick-straight hair. "There’s bend in it, see." I couldn’t, but said that I’d love to have it curly again, now the days of perms are over for me.
"All you need are Products with a capital P", she declared. "First spray KMS California’s Curlup onto towel dried hair, then work in a couple squirts of ISO’s Bouncy Creme. Scrunch your hair up and hang upside down to add to the fullness. Then add some Abba Gel-Lotion and scrunch a little more and voila, full hair with body and curl." Luna was right – I couldn’t believe it when I looked in the mirror. I was having an EXCELLENT hair day.
She admonished me that it was the combination of Products that worked and they had to be applied just as she’d demonstrated. As a thin hair specialist (and sufferer), she’d tried every combination and found this the best.
"Great!" I thought. "I’ve never been able to make my hair look like it does once I leave a salon." Could I really make this work? I am happy to report that yes, it is possible to teach a midlife goddess new tricks. One just has to repeat the instructions several times and reward learning with lots of treats, preferably of the dark chocolate variety. However, having full, gorgeous hair again is the best reward I can imagine.
Just sent the hair stuff on to my beloved sister who is struggling big time w/ alopecia. Hope it will help her out.
Your new do looks mahvelous!
Congrats on the golf, Im envious of your progress. I tried golf, took lessons and all, but it never clicked. Doesn't suite my type A personality.
Hope all is good, youre really going to town on your output for the blog! Good for you!
love,
A.
Okay – so now the hair is good, the golf is good and the spirit is good. And fortunately, the current trend is for long, tunic style tops ideal for hiding the mid-life gut. Aah, life is definitely getting better.
Could you tell us where these products are available to buy? I have always had bad hair: no thinning yet; just so fine it lays flat and does nothing. I have not heard of these brands yet. Thank you!
Thanksi Kat,
I'll post a photo very soon. LOVED the poem about your trip to the salon!

You should post a picture, so we can see how it looks.
I got mine cut the other day and it feels so good! I haven't had any alopecia issues (so far), but I can imagine it is very upsetting. I'm happy to hear that your "miracle-worker" has helped you out.
I wrote a poem about my trip to the hair salon. Stop by and check it out.
Kat
The pictures are the blog are so awesome, every one is just incredible.
The colors are absolutely fabulous. How are you doing this????
I have seen the new "do" , it is fantastic, you look great girl!
These products should be available at most beauty supply stores. Since I live on a rural desert island, there is no beauty supply store and I shop via the internet. I use beauty-mart.com (mostly because they ship via the post office to Hawaii.) And the fabulous Luna tells me that the highlighting she does of just some of my top hair is a critical part of all this – in combination with the products. So maybe your hairdresser can do a few hilites – it opens up and swells the hair cuticle or something like that – makes it look thicker. I think she's right, because I'm overdue for my highlighting and my hair has lost some of its volume -still looks pretty good though. Hope this helps – good luck. Keep us posted.
